Join us at Paris Photo Los Angeles 2014, April 25-27, in Paramount Picture Studios. Fraenkel Gallery will be at Stand 01, Stage 31.
Among the highlights of Fraenkel Gallery’s booth is a finely detailed new black-and-white portrait, more than six feet in height, by Richard Learoyd. Agnes (2), July 2013 is part of Learoyd’s extended portrait series of a model he has photographed over the course of six years using his own camera obscura–a room-sized camera that produces a grainless image with a rich tonal variation.
We are also devoting a wall of the booth to a lively installation of some 17 color portraits of great American musicians and jazz artists–including Aretha Franklin, John Coltrane, Ray Charles and Duke Ellington–photographed by the jazz-influenced Lee Friedlander, whose own work is often a jazz-like improvisation.
You can preview our booth here.
