Christian Marclay is the subject of a 2020 segment of Art in the Twenty-First Century, the long-running PBS series that profiles contemporary artists. Marclay recounts his artistic beginnings as an experimental DJ and musician, when he was influenced by conceptualism, musique concrète, punk rock, and the work of John Cage. He goes on to talk about projects in collage, printmaking, video, animation, and his many collaborations with musicians. “The thread of my work … is sound,” says Marclay. “But sound is such a wide subject … it allows me to work in many media.”
