In connection with the 2025 exhibition Diane Arbus: Constellation at the Park Avenue Armory in New York, CBS Evening News co-anchor John Dickerson spoke with Neil Selkirk about Arbus’s approach to her work. Talking about the tension between intention and instinct, Selkirk says that Arbus allowed “opportunity and chance to play its role,” while remaining open to “what might be about to happen in front of the camera.” Quoting Arbus, Selkirk notes that the results are “always either better or worse than you thought they would be.”
