In an episode of ​the ​Modern Art Notes podcast, Carrie Mae Weems talks​ to host Tyler Green before the opening of her mid-career retrospective at Nashville’s Frist Center for the Visual Arts.​ Weems talks about her long-running interest in the construction and disruption of power, and the importance of narrative in her work. Weems recounts the origins of her series From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried, from her wide-ranging early research to the Getty’s commissioning of the piece, and also touches on series including Sea Islands and The Jefferson Suite, among others.
