In a 2018 conversation presented by LOEWE in connection with an exhibition of work by Peter Hujar and Paul Thek, New York gallerist Gracie Mansion talks with writer, humorist and cultural commentator Fran Lebowitz about the vibrant creative world of downtown Manhattan in the 1970s and ‘80s. Lebowitz was a friend and occasional subject of Hujar’s; Mansion’s gallery represented Thek in the 1980s, and presented the last exhibition of Hujar’s work during his lifetime. The two share their memories of the artists, and of the New York art scene before it was decimated by the AIDS epidemic.
