Hiroshi SugimotoBetween Sea and Sky, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

In an interview from 2018 at the Enoura Observatory in Odawara, Japan, Hiroshi Sugimoto talks about his earliest memory of the sea and his introduction to photography at age 12. He discusses his experience making the series Revolution, which turns the camera on its side and positions the viewer as if in mid-air, caught in an out-of-body experience. Sugimoto recalls the origins of Revolution, and his Seascapes series, which both present the horizon at the ocean’s edge.
