Hilton Als writes in The New Yorker about Hujar:Contact, the 2026 exhibition of Peter Hujar’s contact sheets, prints, and selections from his job books, at the Morgan Museum & Library. Als looks at how Hujar’s complicated life shaped his work, connections that are especially illuminated by the more than 100 contact sheets in the show.
“Art remembers long after we have forgotten,” Als writes. “Hujar’s work is so rooted in transience and in the slippery nature of identity—the quick shutter click between being and not being—that mounting a show of his contact sheets makes great aesthetic and political sense: Who are we, moment by moment?”
