​In an episode of Art in the Twenty-First Century from 2009, Carrie Mae Weems talks about her childhood in Portland, her introduction to photography and the arts, and her early documentary-style series Family Pictures and Stories. The segment also focuses on Constructing History, a series Weems made in collaboration with college students, to explore how explosive moments from the 1960s have been collectively remembered, and how they have shaped the present.
