As part of the Museum Tinguely’s TINGUELY@HOME series, museum director Roland Wetzel talks with Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller about the museum’s 2023 exhibition Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller: Dream Machines.
Among other topics, the artists discuss how sound can bypass the intellect in pieces such as The Forty Part Motet; the magic of technology to ”create illusions that the viewer starts believing,” as Cardiff notes, in works such as To Touch, where contact with an old table elicits sounds; and the appeal of the open-ended nature of works such as The Instrument of Troubled Dreams, which challenges the audience to create their own film soundtrack.
