In 2021, the Museum of Modern Art in New York hosted a forum in connection with their exhibition of Carrie Mae Weems’s celebrated series From Here I Saw What Happened and I Cried, and the publication of the artist’s October Files anthology.
The two hour event, hosted remotely, included a performance by Wynton Marsalis, along with talks by Jennifer Blessing, Kimberly Juanita Brown, Huey Copeland, Thelma Golden, Agnes Gund, Robin Kelsey, Carrie Lambert-Beatty, Thomas J. Lax, Sarah E. Lewis, Richard J. Powell, Deborah Willis, and remarks from Carrie Mae Weems herself.
