In a 2024 lecture at the Harry Ransom Center in connection with the exhibition Visualizing the Environment: Ansel Adams and His Legacy, Richard Misrach and Steven Hoelscher talk about Adams. Misrach recalls the older photographer’s influence on his early career, as both a person he knew, and as a force in the medium. Misrach and Hoelscher discuss the ways that Adams’s work shaped the practice of younger photographers including Misrach, affecting how he worked with scale and materials, and leading him to pursue beauty in his work, whatever the subject.
