In an episode of the award-winning television series Art in the Twenty-First Century, Robert Adams talks about photographing the transformation of the American West. Adams recalls his surprise at finding beauty in the light that fell on the new highways and tract houses he first photographed in Colorado. Those photographs became The New West, a project that documented “what’s glorious in the West, and what remains glorious, even despite what we’ve done to it,” says Adams.
