This special edition of One city / two visions is slipcased, signed, numbered, and dated, and accompanied by a signed and numbered original print by Mark Klett, inscribed “Viewing the Mark Hopkins from panel no. 2.”

The accordion-fold book illustrates Eadweard Muybridge’s celebrated 1877 panorama of San Francisco, made from the top of the Mark Hopkins mansion, and Mark Klett’s study of the same view, made in 1990 from the terraces of the 16th floor of the Mark Hopkins Inter-Continental Hotel. The book continues Klett’s project re-photographing important nineteenth century landscapes made by photographers in the early years of the medium. Seen together, the photographs record how the land has changed or, in some cases, how it has not.
