Robert Adams: Around the House

Over his more than forty-year career of making photographs, Robert Adams has been known primarily as an artist of the landscape, tracing humans’ relationship to nature and the American West. In a shift from his focus on the changing environment, Around the House focuses on his more immediate environs: the quiet corners and rooms of his home, his darkroom, and his garden, as well as the subtle drama in the sky just above his house. This book is his most personal book to date, as Adams’ photographs circumscribe an intimate sphere, capturing the small details and spaces that define his daily routine.

Robert Adams (born 1937) has published more than 60 books and has been the recipient of Guggenheim and MacArthur Foundation fellowships, the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, and the Hasselblad Foundation International Award. His work was the subject of a major retrospective organized by the Yale University Art Gallery, which toured nationally and internationally from 2011-2014.
