First Exposures and Fraenkel Gallery are excited to announce that longtime supporter Richard Misrach is generously donating the proceeds from the sale of a never-before-exhibited work, Shorebreak Triptych #2, to benefit First Exposures.

Founded in 1993, First Exposures is a San Francisco-based youth development nonprofit with a focus on photography. The organization provides academic and social support, offering mentorship programs and classes for young people ages 11 to 18.

As one of the earliest supporters of First Exposures, for thirty years Richard Misrach has championed the transformative power of photography in the lives of young people. His gift will contribute to the organization’s vision to empower youth through empathy, creativity, and community, and its impact will be felt for decades to come.

Shorebreak Triptych #2, from Misrach’s series Notations, is an homage to film. Made during the artist’s shift toward working exclusively with a digital camera, the series explores the negative image as an aesthetic experience in its own right.
